At a recent STEM Post sessions Kristina Kesack , a Souderton and Penn State graduate, came to talk to our students about opportunities in Civil and Environmental Engineering. Ms. Kesack works for Brown and Caldwell – a company that builds waste water treatment facilities. Through a presentation students were able to better understand a.) what it takes to earn a degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering, b.) what Civil/Environmental engineers do, and c.) the process of building a waste water plant (complete with CAD drawings). Students then participated in a hands-on activity where they tried to filter and clean water polluted with leaves and dirt. The students got to see firsthand how using different materials for filtration and filtering numerous times can produce cleaner water.
