We are a village at EMC! English Language Learners at E.M.C. Elementary School practiced their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in English, as they narrated accounts of their personal journeys to the United States. The group read several books related to immigration experiences and talked about the value of understanding two cultures and languages--that of their home country and also the United States. Each student then wrote about their own experience as a bilingual, bicultural learner here in the United States and practiced their speaking skills as they read their books for an audience.
